Becoming a Volunteer at Shields Valley Schools
At Shields Valley Schools, we are so grateful for the many parents, grandparents, and community members who step up to volunteer. Your time, support, and encouragement make a real difference in the lives of our students.
To keep our schools safe and in compliance with Montana law (Sec. 20-3-323, MCA, as amended by HB745, effective July 1, 2025), all volunteers must follow the guidelines below:
-
Supervised Volunteers
If you are volunteering in a classroom, at an event, or on a field trip and will always be with a staff member, you do not need a background check. -
Unsupervised Volunteers
If your volunteer role may involve any time alone with students (during school, on a field trip, or while transporting students), you will need to complete a fingerprint-based national criminal history background check.
How to Get Started:
-
Complete the Volunteer Application Form and Consent Form (linked below).
-
Contact the District Office at (406) 578-2535 to make an appointment for fingerprinting.
-
Once your background check is complete and reviewed, the district will notify you when you are cleared to volunteer.
We are excited to welcome you as part of the Shields Valley team! Thank you for taking the time to complete this process—it helps us keep every student safe while continuing our strong tradition of community involvement.
